Ginger Apple Tea :: hot or cold

Good morning and welcome to all the new friends and faces here! I’m so happy to be sharing this recipe with you today. It’s really simple to make, but its rewards are many. Ginger has countless health benefits and it’s been an addition to our produce drawer for a little while now. I first reached for it during my pregnancy to keep morning sickness at bay and now I use it to make a delicious and refreshing homemade tea – that my mom introduced me to.  She had been making ginger tea alone for some time, but then decided to add an apple and it sweetened it right up! For this batch, I also added cinnamon sticks and a piece of bourbon black vanilla. While this was simmering, our home exuded the most delightful smells, it made it hard not to pour a cup before it was ready 🙂

My husband brought me back bourbon black vanilla from his travels through the Indian Ocean. I like it’s scent and texture – it’s gorgeous and infuses this tea with the perfect notes of vanilla.

Ingredients
one gala apple (a sweet apple), quartered
a chunk of ginger ( 2 x 2 inches), roughly peeled
two cinnamon sticks
one half of a vanilla bean, sliced open
twelve cups of water
Fill a large pot with twelve cups of water, add all of your ingredients.
Bring water to a rolling boil. Then reduce to low heat. Cover and let simmer for one hour.
Enjoy as hot tea, or let tea cool to room temperature, transfer to a pitcher and refrigerate 
for thirty minutes and enjoy over ice with fresh apple slices.
I sip this tea hot or cold – you can taste all the exquisite flavors and reap the health benefits either way. With it’s combination of ginger, cinnamon, and apple, it really is a super tonic. So drink up!!
As you can see, Little A. had no hesitation in sticking his baby paws out for a taste.

    I love ginger tea, and make it often. My daughter always asks me to make ginger lemonade. I like how easy you can peel ginger with a spoon. The tea is good when you have a cold too…it just makes you feel better. I can imagine how good your tea is with the vanilla and apple! I gotta try it! Mmmm…

  5. I make mine by very thinly slice peeled ginger root, put in my tea pot and pour on boiling water, it’s faster that way.
