Ontario Natural :: Saucy Sauces!
By Emily Smith
Do you remember the first time that you had spaghetti? I can’t say that I do, but I do have memories of incidences involving spaghetti. Winter camp in the second grade, when I choked on a bay leaf. The time when I walked from the kitchen to the dining room table holding my plate full, only to then watch in slow motion the entirety of piled noodles slip off and fly onto the floor; my mom thinking I did it on purpose. My after-school babysitter making spaghetti and adding ketchup on top for me to ‘like it better’. We haven’t had the best ride together. I sure hope your spaghetti moments have been better than mine.
However, I now have a new experience to share. One that is good!
It involves mouthwatering tomato sauce with basil, brown rice spaghetti noodles, the cutest kid ever, and a delicious meal with family. Oh, and nobody’s spaghetti fell on the floor
Have you heard of Ontario Natural? Well, today I wanted to introduce you to their brand, if you aren’t already a devoted consumer. I picked up one of their savory soups at my local health food store a while back and afterwards did a little research to find out what they are all about and what other products they offer.
“Ontario Natural is the private label brand of Ontario Natural Food Co-op. All Ontario Natural foods are locally Ontario grown and produced – offering leading quality healthy foods that support both the local Ontario economy and organic farming community.
We’re committed to supporting a sustainable food system – from seed to plate. All of our Ontario Natural products are; Grown for the Ontario market, Made locally from Ontario farms, Reducing food miles for cleaner air, Organically grown to nurture a healthy food system, Strengthening the Ontario economy.“
Can you say, awesome! I got in touch with them about featuring their products on The Best of this Life and the lucky girl that I am, also got to try their new line of sauces! Well, not only did they change an entire lifetime of spaghetti mishaps, Ontario Naturals has got themselves a new customer, for life.
Oh, and about the cutest kid ever? Well, that would be Little A. of course
I’m happy to report that his first spaghetti moment was fantastic. It was messy, tasty, happy, and full of eating enthusiasm!
Look at him go! I think he likes it, don’t you? Hehehe….
Totally worth getting your hands on these fresh, local sauces – they’re delicious!

July 18, 2012 at 2:29 pm (305 days ago)Haha! I like Erica’s comment! I was a weirdo as a kid and actually only wanted BUTTER On my noodles! NO SAUCE! To this day, I will only eat spaghetti if my hubby makes it from scratch. His is delicious!

July 18, 2012 at 3:14 pm (304 days ago)I usually make my own sauce using roasted tomatoes… I’ve been avoiding anything canned because of the preservatives

These sauces have no preservatives!!! That’s why they are awesome
Just like my grandma made sauces and stored them in mason jars, so these sauces are also made and stored. Ingredients are all fresh and locally made. I support local, organic, fresh foods and I’m loving their mission statement! These are not your average canned sauces. You can read the ingredient list by viewing the product list, if you wish.

They really are delicious and I love that they foster a sustainable food system (local), use only the best ingredients and are also certified gluten-free and certified low-sodium.

Hahaha, that’s funny! But I did know a girl in grade school who was the same way – only butter! I’ve yet to attempt making gluten-free pasta from scratch…I wonder how hard it would be to make it with brown rice? As for the sauce, we love making our own homemade, but I’m also happy to find one to keep on hand that supports local farmers – win, win

I see I have to try this, preferably with the face and all
Funny but my strongest food childhood memory is spaghetti, ketchup, butter and parmesan. My favourite! And I still mix it sometimes when I am in a hurry….

July 18, 2012 at 9:45 pm (304 days ago)I never was one for spaghetti. My stomach always felt yucky after eating it no matter which way it was served. This sauce and gluten free pasta combination was surprisingly delicious and tummy ache free! Plus my little sunshine’s entertaining show was the absolute TREAT!!!
