A Photobook for Little A

By Emily Smith

Aiden’s first year
When I think back on the first year of Little A’s life, my eyes fill with tears. It was a blessed year.

Even though it was not without hardship – above all else it was 365 days of amazement, because he was now in our lives. As many of you know, my husband is a U.S. Navy Veteran and during that year, we were separated due to work ups and then a long deployment. Giving birth without him by my side was difficult, but being apart afterwards was even harder.

By grace, we overcame space and time, with courage and an overwhelming desire to carry each other through the trial of separation.  To keep Mr. Smith as much a part of our everyday at home, I snapped pictures daily of Little A and what we were up to.  I sent pictures via email and good old fashioned mail, writing stories to accompany them. He did not miss a moment!

Pictures are incredible; they can convey a magnitude and one image can conjure up so many different emotions. Some of the funniest photos of Little A are equally some of the most precious and cherished by Mr. Smith. They brought enormous joy and light into his world, while out to sea and away from his loved ones.

The color IS right on these pictures – my husband had a major burn when he came home.

I was recently given the opportunity to review the new 11 x14 Lay-Flat photobook by Snapfish and with a year of cherished memories captured in photographs, I knew just what pictures I wanted to use. Making a photobook to treasure for a long time to come is a special way to look back on a life changing year.

The process of creating Little A’s book was too cool. I had a blast picking the pictures, the background, the theme, fonts, and adding all the captions. It was incredibly easy and rewarding to make. Once I completed my order, I was super excited to receive it in the mail. When it arrived – I squealed with anticipation!

Oh, is it ever beautiful! The high-gloss exterior is gorgeous and the photo quality is really good.  I’m so impressed with the entire book, I just had to share it with you (it wasn’t required of me to post about my review, but I asked if I could!!) The lay-flat style turns as smoothly as a magazine and the layout design is so eye-catching. Our new photobook is a real gem; Mr. Smith and I have looked through it more than a few times since we received it – reliving the moments, telling stories and beaming with pride over our angel and the wonderment of his life.

I wanted to do this when Matthew turned 1 but after days and days of trying to get it right, I gave up, the internet connection is not that great so I kept on having troubles. I think is a great gift for grandparents, so when we get back I’m going to get on it (for them and us)
On a different note, I can’t even imagine how it was to be apart from mr. Smith, especially having little A with you, those times must have benn so tough Emily, so happy you are together now ;)

Photo books are a great idea. I mean, let’s face it – how often do we actually print photos out and organise them into an album? And I’m sure it’s something Mr Smith would like to take away with him (you could make him a minature version!). My other half works fly-in-fly-out mining (and was in the Navy before I met him) and him being gone 3 weeks in every 4 is hard enough with no kids to worry about!!!

Oh this is just adorable! I soemtimes wish my parents did this for me, so that I can have sth just as lovely to look back upon now. Then again, they did have 4 kids, so I understand how insane that would have been. Nice one emily, you’re so sweet (:
