Amanda Baumgarth is one half of the lovable and unique duo who together create a shopping girl’s dream blog cleverly named, do I even like this?
“Every girl has that one special friend who is their personal style arbiter, whose opinion is so valued that you need to know if they like something to know if you even like it yourself. Elizabeth and Amanda are those friends.”
As the pair goes back and forth on topics such as what to wear, fashion trends, and recent purchases, you get to follow their correspondence – staying current with style affairs in the go-between and chiming in with your opinion when fitting. It’s a fun place to visit daily…
but don’t take my word for it, take a peek at
do I even like this? and
I assure you, you will. Amanda has graciously rounded up her
style essentials to share with us today. I was thrilled to bits when I received her list of key items, as she is one stylish lady, I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed!
Amanda’s Style Essentials:
1 Oversized Sweater: I am unashamed of my love for oversized sweaters. It’s cold in Chicago, y’all. Rather than buying several sweaters each season I like to save my pennies for one special purchase like this
Cocoon Cardigan from VPL.
2 Hermes Market Bag: Bags are definitely my statement accessory of choice. I received a pre-loved Hermes Market bag in Dalmatian leather from my darling hubs for Christmas and can’t wait to bring it out for it’s springtime debut.
3 Diamond Studs: I am a super minimalist when it comes to jewelry but I wear my one dainty pair of diamond studs nearly every day. They’re just the right amount of sweet bling for me.
4 Tortoise Glasses: I am awful at putting contacts in so my glasses really have to rock my world. I dream of being the kind of girl who has a glasses wardrobe but for now, one solid pair of tortoise with some presence will have to do.
5 The Flat Boot: I am a flat boots girl from way back and these Corso Comos are among the most comfortable I’ve ever owned. I love them so much that I have them in two colors.
6 Manicures: Maybe it’s the Southern belle trapped inside me but I’m a really firm believer that I always look more put together when I’m on the ball with my beauty regime and manis are a big part of that. Buff or Mademoiselle are the two ways you’re most likely to spy my digits.
In a few words, how would you describe your style?
A mix of modern and classic pieces with carefully edited accessories and an allergy to color and frills.

Oh, I’m loving every single one of these must-haves! I don’t wear glasses but I’ve been tempted
to for style’s sake. Thank you Amanda for coming by today, we’re so happy to have you!
Have a great weekend!
I’ve been back to work for a couple of weeks now and that means building a wardrobe that’s work appropriate. Of course I already have some great pieces to work with, which I consider my essentials; A little
black day dress, a
bright cardigan, a
goes-with-everything overcoat and a
neutral purse, to name a few - are staple items in my closet and make getting ready in the morning a no brainer. I also love a classic black or navy suit.
This one from Anne Klein is a current favorite. What’s ideal about choosing essential pieces as your wardrobe base, is that you can easily change the look by accessorizing with your jewelry, scarves and separates.
- Oasis Stores – Oragami Shift Dress
- ModCloth – Night Was Dark Jacket
- Dorothy Perkins – Red Crew Neck Cardigan
- Top Shop - Adore Black Suede Ankle Boots
- Dolce and Gabbana – Grey Soft Leather Bag (on my wishlist!)
- Movado – Ladies Watch
- Swarovski – Silver Tennis Bracelet
- Barneys – Flower napkin ring (yes, this is a napkin ring, but I have a real ring just like it!!)
You know how I love rounding up my essentials for daily living; those special items that
make my life peachier and have the ability to change a frown from upside down…well, I equally
love knowing what products are on other’s must-have list. Today, I’m thrilled to bits to bring you
the style essentials of one of my closest and dearest friends. These are the pieces in her closet that
make her a street style photographer’s dream!

or simply have a love of all things pretty! From fashion to food, she’s got you covered.
Without further ado, Noémie talks style essentials:
01 // PARKA: I purchased this Cynthia Steffe parka last winter when it went on sale, and it’s been one of the best purchases I’ve made in a long time. I can remove the hood, lining, and lower arms and it suddenly becomes a great spring jacket.
02 // LOOSE TOPS: I’m always into loose tops, especially now that H&M is fully stocked with them in every colour and pattern.
03 // BLACK BAG: I purchased this one while I was living in China, so it has a bit of sentimental value. I’ve gotten tons of compliments over it, and it’s the right size to carry everything I need.
04 // ANKLE BOOTIES: These are from Topshop, and although the heels are taller than I usually wear, they are super comfortable.
05 // BLACK SKINNIES: I buy mine higher waisted (I feel much too old to be wearinganything that I can’t bend over in) and they are usually what I pull on when I don’t feel liketrying too hard.
How would you describe your style?
If I had to sum it up in a few words, I would say - “Laid back with vintage and masculine
sensibilities – I love a tailored aesthetic but comfort is always key with the clothes I wear. “
Thank you so much for sharing your essentials with with us; I am smitten with those boots!
