When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
The good kind.
From fresh lemons and limes.
With a little sugar to sweeten & just enough mint to dazzle your taste buds.
Yesterday my husband flew back to to the Naval Station in Virginia.
He just got here and now he’s gone again.
Now we’re waiting… waiting to hear news if his request to finish his contract early is
approved or not. Waiting to find out if he’ll be coming home in a month or if we’ll be moving down South.
Yesterday, I really felt like a sour lemon.
I didn’t want our vacation to end, I didn’t want to see my husband get into the taxi and blow us kisses goodbye – I didn’t want to feel the emptiness in our home, that was missing him.
The thing is, when you have a little darling with big hazel eyes that looks to you
with smiles and giggles – you can’t stay a sour lemon, or else you’ll miss
the sweetness that’s right there in front of you.
So I squeezed the sour out of me – with a few tears and loaded up on sugar from the purest source – oh those smooshes and kisses – and together we made the best of our afternoon.
We made lemonade and mommy told stories of daddy and of great things to come.
Lemon-Limeade with a Hint of Mint
1/2 cup organic fine sugar
8 cups of cold filtered water
3 Tbsp of fresh mint leaves
Squeeze lemons and limes into a bowl. Pour through strainer over another bowl to remove seeds. Mix in sugar and mint leaves. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Pour into a pitcher and add 8 cups of cold water. Stir well – taste test to see if you would like to add more sugar for a sweeter drink or more mint leaves for more of that refreshing flavour.
Refrigerate for 15 minutes (until well chilled). Serve over ice with garnishes of lemons, limes & mint leaves. Enjoy this refreshing (mood lifting) summer drink!
