What motivates you to live your life and follow your dreams? For myself, it’s time. Not the fear of time, but rather the value of it. Time is precious and not to be squandered. The good old saying Carpe Diem (seize the day), may have been diluted with overuse – however it still resonates with me. Get out there, live your life, each and everyday! I do stress YOUR life, because going after your goals without barriers looks differently for each one of us. It’s about finding what fulfills you personally. My adventure certainly doesn’t involve sky diving, but I would love to hike a high mountain and learn to surf in an exotic country.
I’d like to share with you the incredible story of Erik Weihenmayer. Together with Nature Valley, Erik is encouraging others to push beyond their boundaries and take life by force. His adventure is nothing short of motivational and a positive example of how you can move forward in your own life. I have personally been very moved and inspired by Erik and excited to take on new ambitions in my own life.
What makes Erik Wihenmayer an incredible role model for breaking ground and living life to the fullest? Well, for starters – he has climbed the seven highest summits in the world! And most recently, he is taking on the Grand Canyon’s Colorado River for a kayaking expedition of a lifetime. I guess, I should probably also tell you that Erik is a blind adventurer! The “No Barriers Grand Canyon Expedition” s a 21 day 277 mile journey through some of the world’s most challenging whitewater terrain in the Colorado River. Erik will be supported by an experienced paddling team, and accompanied by Lonnie Bedwell, a fellow blind adventurer and Navy veteran. The pair has been preparing extensively for the journey and involved several years of training and developing innovative systems for kayaking rapids with support from high-tech radios and verbal commands from river guides.
The trip began September 7th at Lees ferry and the expected date of completion is around September 28th at Pearce Ferry.
Nature Valley’s new commercial features Erik and his daughter – exploring nature and challenging us to take it in with a new set of eyes, ears, hands….what a powerful message.
I’m just so amazed and motivated to pursue my own lifelong dreams as result of seeing such determination and Erik’s astounding adventure! Are you in awe of the challenge they are conquering? This expedition serves to inspire us all to not limit ourselves, but instead to have courage and live life to its fullest – in spite of barriers we might think are limiting us. Nature Valley and Erik Weihenmayer are inviting people to pledge to get out there and live a No Barriers Life! Will you join me in taking the pledge? Let’s do it!
You can follow Erik’s journey on Nature Valley’s tumblr here. Thank you Erik for being an inspiration to us all!
I would love to hear what your dream adventure is? Leave a note!
