Art is personal. It’s all about what you see and what you feel. I am drawn to so many different kinds of art, but I am particularly drawn to a photograph, painting, or sketch – that evokes and stirs something inside of me. That’s how I felt when I laid eyes on the print “Wild and Free” by Robin Ott Design. I have a great love of horses and the movement of this horse on the sandbank made me pause and look closer. No master in sight, just him wandering the beach and exploring the world around. Its caption is: A wild mustang runs free on the beaches of the Outer Banks, North Carolina.
It was the perfect choice to rest on our mantel and whisper of places yet to see and things yet to discover. Simultaneously, the photograph reminded me of when we lived in Norfolk, Virginia while my husband was in the U.S Navy – and the days we spent by the ocean side as young newly weds. Yes! All of this from one art print. That is why art is personal.
Our new Wild and Free print keeps a few of our wedding pictures company (of our ceremony at a magnolia plantation in North Carolina), as well as a painting of ships coming into port, another significant piece. I love to fill our home with meaningful treasures – sure, sometimes it’s simply about decor, but more often than not, there is a story behind it! That’s just the kind of people we are.
When I was deciding on the frame for our print, I leapt at the option of using reclaimed barn wood. The frame is handcrafted in the US from wood reclaimed from old barns. Each frame reflects the imperfections and weathering of time and years of use. Is it just me, or is that not just lovely? As I unwrapped the bubble wrap and our new artwork was before me, I smiled from ear to ear – so pleased with our choice!
