Life whirls, twirls, and spins you around. Sometimes that means you’ve got your dancing shoes on to complement a beautiful dress – and other times that means you’ve had a week where you feel like you’ve been tossed into the spin cycle of your washing machine. Been there?
How do you unwind from that “go” feeling? There are lots of ways to decompress. Some of my favourite stress relievers are doing yoga, listening to chill music and writing in my journal. Other times, I really crave vegging out. My husband is the same way; there are days when de-stressing means going to do a two-hour workout and other days when he’s ready to relax with me and stream a comedy show.
We don’t have cable TV and haven’t for the six years that we’ve been married. In the past, we would rent certain TV series that interested us or watch movies that had just come out on DVD. These days, we’re streaming – and we’ve enjoyed watching Grey’s Anatomy, The Mindy Project and Foyle’s War.
It’s definitely become a fun stay-at-home date, where we settle in to watch a favourite show and unwind with a glass of wine. Typically, I’ll prepare a small plate of canapés or tapas to pair with our wine…but to be honest, I’ve never really thought of chips!
But why not? A premium chip made from hand selected potatoes and fine ingredients could be rather delicious. So, this weekend – we put that theory to the test. We didn’t have to look very far for the right sip and snack duos, thanks to our friends at Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Wines and Miss Vickie’s® Potato Chips.
To set the scene for a perfect unwinding evening, I created a stay-at-home romantic date night picnic. Wine, chips, blanket, fire, fave movies and tv shows all set to enjoy!
Did you know that 50% of Canadians eat potato chips while watching TV and 61% of Canadians say they pair a glass of wine with a snack like potato chips at least once or twice a month? Classy snacking, folks!
Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi is known for producing consistently great-tasting wines with exceptional quality that deliver light fruit aromas and smooth finishes pairing perfectly with the authentic, handcrafted taste of Miss Vickie’s potato chips, also made with care for the finest ingredients.
We absolutely loved the pairing of Cabernet Sauvignon with Original Recipe Miss Vickie’s chips. The cab sav. has rich berry aromas that gives it a delicious full body. We’ve added it to our wine list, it’s that good. My second favourite was the Pinot Grigio, with crisp nectarine and peach flavours – the recommended pairing is the tangy Miss Vickie’s Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar (my hubby munched on those!).
Are you curious how to match your favourite TV genre with the best wine and chips choice? I’ve got the exact science.
|Pair…||If you’re watching…|
|Cabernet Sauvignon + Original Recipe||Action: Excitement, heroes, and villains draw you in and leave you wanting more.|
|Pinot Grigio + Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar||Reality TV: You can’t help but enjoy the characters and wonder if the star of the show could be you!|
|Sauvignon Blanc + Lime & Black Pepper||Drama: You love your drams and all the unbelievable twists and turns they bring!|
|Merlot + Balsamic Vinegar & Sweet Onion||Comedy: When you settle in to relax, you do so desiring endless laughs!|
