What happens when art and food collide?
Ottawanians are in for quite an inspired experience this month. A one-of-a-kind culinary event is happening next week, from January 27-29 at LIFT Restaurant, where attendees will enjoy an incredible night of Canadian talent.
LIFT Restaurant will be showcasing local artists, musicians and chefs. Executive Chef, Jason Duffy, will represent Ontario with delicious plates – including duck sourced from Mariposa Farms as well as Lake Erie pickerel. Of course, the bountiful produce from Ontario will be present at his food station as well.
I’m so excited to tell you all about the highlights and food offerings, but before I get ahead of myself let me explain the event a bit more!
The night will be an exhibition of all things “true north strong and free”. Admission to the event gives guests full access to Canadian-inspired live food stations. At said stations, there will be top chefs from around the country.
To complement all this amazing food, there will also be loca brewers’ stations featuring beer samples from Mill Street, Amsterdam, Flying Monkeys and Beau’s. For the wine lovers, there will be an assortment of wines from Small Wine Makers, including one of my favourites, a 2012 Pinot Noir “Cuvee Country” by Rosehall Run, PEC, Ontario.
If that doesn’t seem over the top enough for you, Lynsey (Delta’s bartender) will be on sight with exclusively created signature cocktails from Split Tree (as seen on CBC Dragons’ Den).
Okay, so I’m sure you want to know more about the menu. Here’s the scoop – as mentioned Exec. Chef Jason Duffy will be serving up some amazing dishes and he’s not the only one. There will be many other Delta and Marriott chefs from across Canada representing local fare.
Ontario’s plates sound divine, duck confit and pickerel cheek ceviche, and the other regions appear equally as tantalizing. The Maritimes are representing with fresh oysters, caviar, snow crab cakes and lobster with white chocolate sauce. Wow.
Québec is bringing some serious crowd pleasers – sugar shack Québec style maple taffy on snow, red deer tartare, and pheasant breast with maple, cranberry & pearl onions. Alberta will be presenting, grass fed beef, fondant potatoes, pickled mushrooms, beef short rib, bison carpaccio, bone marrow, fried capers, egg confetti, and charred crostini.
