Ahhhh, pencil skirts. Elegant and chic, utterly feminine and reminiscent of those days when women wore red lipstick, gorgeous neck scarves and pearls regularly, I have quite the love affair with the classic cut of a pencil skirt. Thankfully it’s this year’s fall fashion staple, and while the women of the forties and fifties might’ve been expected to pair their pencil skirts with heels and buttoned-up blouses, we have the freedom to get a bit more creative (and when I get the chance to use my imagination when it comes to wardrobe choices, believe me do I take it!). One of the reasons why I created The Best of This Life was to share my ideas and simple solutions with all of you, and fashion happens to be one of my favourite mediums to do just that!
Below are two of my top ways to rock a pencil skirt this fall:
- A pencil skirt, jean jacket and runners.
Pencil skirts don’t have to be “fancy”—in fact, as you can see above, it looks adorable with a classic dark jean jacket and some printed slip-on runners! This is the perfect outfit for running errands, taking the kiddos to the park for a picnic, or if you’re planning a weekend getaway and want to look put-together while still being able to sit comfortably for a few hours in the car. Top the look off with a floppy straw hat and fringed bag for that quintessential bohemian vibe.
- A pencil skirt (the same one, see how versatile it is?), boyfriend shirt and heels.
Another fantastic way to wear fall’s staple this year is by pairing it with a versatile boyfriend shirt in a pinstripe or solid colour, and adding a pair of black heels. This outfit can absolutely go from the office to an evening out, with the boyfriend shirt providing just the amount of coverage needed for daytime, and the dark heels offsetting the pencil skirt’s silhouette and berry hue flawlessly.
What do you think? Will you be rocking a pencil skirt this season?
