Dining Review: Industria Wows The Ottawa Crowd

According to Forbes, first impressions take 7 seconds to form. “You’ve got just seven seconds – but if you handle it well, seven seconds are all you need!”

Industria took their 7 seconds and wowed the Ottawa crowd.

Last Wednesday, Industria Italian Brasserie hosted a VIP launch event at their brand new location in Lansdowne Park. The modern pizzeria and brasserie offers a fusion of authentic and modern Italian cuisine.

The intimate group of VIP guests were greeted with gorgeous cocktails, Crown & Grand Sangria and Spritz, with trays of SFIZI showing up at the tables all around shortly after. If you aren’t familiar with the term, SFIZI are Italy’s version of tapas or sharing plates. They are integral in the concept at Industria and encourage conversation, taste-testing different dishes and ultimately enjoying a ton of great food with friends!

An introduction to the restaurant and its menu was made by Industria’s Head Chef, Sergio Mattoscio, who explained the concept of combining classic Italian family recipes with new world ingredients and modern cuisine. Cutting edge with heart.

Industria’s name lends itself to the decor – a very industrial space and design. The restaurant feels like a large-scale cosmopolitan loft, with the bar at its center and an open kitchen at the back. You have several options for enjoying your meal, from the bistro tables at the front windows (perfect for people watching) all the way to the large wooden family-sized tables at the back which are enveloped by cozy booths.

The ceilings are excessively high, with modern art and chandeliers hanging from them. Red, black, grey, and silver create a bold look that is grounded by the warmth of organic materials like brick and wood. It’s the kind of place where you can go to hang out with friends to watch the game or dress up with your new heels for date night.

The dishes that we sampled or rather, indulged in – were delicious and innovative. Have you ever tried a pizza that tastes like a McDonald’s Big Mac? Neither had I until I took a bite out of Industria’s signature pizza, made with grilled minced beef, yellow cheddar, iceberg lettuce, pickles, onions, sesame seeds and a special Industria sauce. If you like that kind of thing, than you’d love a slice (my husband did!). But for myself, I swooned over the platter of Lobster Tacos, fresh with scallions, celery, sesame seeds, and ginger mayo. They literally melted in my mouth.

After trying the pizza, tacos, meatballs, and calamari – we mingled and drank our drinks, discussing amongst each other the food, the restaurant, and the night itself. To our surprise, with almost full bellies, we were guided to our seats and waiters came out to take our orders for a main meal!

Between my husband and I, we ordered a pasta and a pizza. The Orecchiette Salsiccia E Rapini pasta is made with orecchiette, italian sausage, rapini, tomato sauce and parmesan. My hubby absolutely loved his dish! I enjoyed the few bites that I had, even though I am not a huge fan of rapini. However, the freshness of the pasta and ingredients were in the taste.

The pizza that I ordered and cheated on my gluten-free diet for was worth every bite. It arrived on a beautiful cutting board with vintage-looking industrial scissors. Very cool. To grab a slice, you literally cut your own! The Prosciutto E Rucola pizza was layered with prosciutto, fresh arugula, sundried cherry tomatoes, parmesan shavings , truffle oil , tomato sauce and  fresh mozzarella. It was a fantastic medley of flavours and everyone at our table agreed it was incredible.

I have to add here that the staff at Industria were impeccable. They were available for questions and never too far away to refresh your drink.

Within 7 seconds of arriving at Industria, we were greeted, given a cocktail, and shown to the VIP section. Impressed? I’d say so!

Industria Italian Brasserie is located at 225 Marche Way #107 at Lansdowne Park and it’s the place to go for your next meal out. Take a look at the menu and see all of the delectable offerings just waiting to be tried!
