Pumpkin Patch Deviled Eggs

Have you visited a pumpkin patch this fall? I always love how cheerful the pumpkins look, surrounded by their green vines, ripe for the picking. That autumnal scene is my inspiration for making these pretty little pumpkin patch deviled eggs.

Don’t they just look fresh for the eating!

Who Doesn’t Love Deviled Eggs!

The beauty of deviled eggs is that you can make them countless ways. The mighty egg always shines in this timeless appetizer. For this recipe, I used a touch of paprika and hot sauce to add a bit of heat – and to give them their orange hue.

When I was a kid, my favourite way to eat eggs was deviled eggs. My mom makes the best ones, seriously. But over the years, I’ve come to love eggs prepared in almost every way imaginable. They are so versatile and delicious!

My husband and both my children also love deviled eggs just as much as I do. We always make them for family gatherings, special occasions, picnics, and well, just about any chance we get.

This is why I wanted to share with you a fun way to make them for fall. These pumpkin-shaped deviled eggs are not only adorable and festive, they’re full of flavour. The addition of hot sauce, paprika, fresh lemon juice, and dijon mustard complements the eggs perfectly.

Did you know that October 9th is World Egg Day?

It’s a global celebration of eggs! If there ever was a day to share on social media why you love eggs, how you like them, and your favourite egg recipe – it’s THE day. Use the hashtag #WorldEggDay to share your love of eggs and see what others are posting.

Together with Egg Farmers of Canada, in honour of World Egg Day, we’re celebrating the heroes and champions in the food industry who work together to deliver the fresh, local, high-quality eggs we love to enjoy.

It’s incredible how many people across Canada play a key role in delivering quality eggs to Canadians. There are over 1,100 egg farmers in Canada who work together to provide us with the best eggs ever.

We thank them! Because of all their hard work, we get to enjoy eggs year-round in all of our favourite ways.

How to Make Pumpkin Patch Deviled Eggs

Ingredients:

  • 12  large eggs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika (more for dusting)
  • salt and pepper
  • chives and sage leaves, for garnish

Directions:

  1. Place cold eggs in a single layer in a saucepan. Cover with at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) cold water over top of the eggs.
  2. Cover saucepan and bring quickly to a boil over a high heat. Immediately remove pan from heat to stop boiling. Let eggs stand in water for 12 minutes (large eggs).
  3. Drain water and immediately run cold water over eggs until cooled.
  4. Gently crack shells and peel the eggs.
  5. Cut eggs in half, lengthwise. Using a teaspoon (or smaller) scoop out the yolks and put them in a mixing bowl. Set the whites aside.
  6. Add into the mixing bowl: mayonnaise, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, paprika, salt and pepper. Use a fork or hand mixer to blend until most of the lumps are gone.
  7. Using a piping bag and large open star piping nozzle, distribute the mixture among the egg whites.
  8. Dust paprika over the egg yolks. Garnish with a small piece of chive or small sage leaves. Enjoy!

There are so many variations of deviled eggs to try. Feeling adventurous? You can add pumpkin to the mix! Skip the hot sauce and Dijon, and for a delicious flavour combination add three tablespoons of pumpkin puree and 1 slice of crumbled cooked bacon.

You can also try these yummy combos: tomato and chives, jalapeño and cheddar cheese, shrimp and garlic, avocado and salsa.
